Design Your Own Art Project 2

Artist Statement

My project is a 5-minute short narrative film, which I wrote, directed, shot, and edited. This project originally started as a film made for a college application, but it quickly grew to be more than that. I am very passionate about film, and I enjoy visual storytelling, which I think this project exemplifies. I am also fascinated with how film can portray a moment in time, and this film was a great way for me to experiment with the timeline of a story, and I think it made the project much more interesting and helped pull the audience in even more. There is no special story behind the how the plot of this film came about, but fellow student Kyle Colley and I brainstormed for a while and eventually came up with the idea of a love story with an emotional and intellectual twist, which blossomed into the story of this film. I am very proud of this project and I would like to thank Kyle and everyone else involved for helping me so much in achieving my vision for the film. I hope that this project grips people emotionally while also drawing them in and making them think, as that aligns to the kinds of films and stories that I am passionate about creating.

Design Your Own Art Project

For this project, we were given broad guidelines to design our own art project. I used the time given for this project to work on a short self-introductory video essay as part of an application to a film school.
I feel that this project went well; I am definitely proud of my final product. I worked on this project for a long time, typically shooting or editing during class. I used Adobe Premiere to edit in and Adobe After Effects to pull through some of the visuals and kinetic text effects in the video. If I were to do this over again, I would just try to organize my time and workflow a little bit better so I could have a better idea of where I wanted to take the project from the beginning. Once I got started, though, I had a pretty clear idea of where I wanted to go with the project, and I think that I have created a good end result.
